Guidance for parents - Keeping your child safe online (1).docx Always be careful when you are using the internet. It can help you to keep in touch with your friends and help your education – but it can also cause harm – to you and to others.
Remember help is always available at school if you are having any problems online.
Don’t be afraid to talk to your teacher or another adult at school.

Safer Internet Day: Parent/ child discussion
This discussion can be undertaken today or later in the week.
The Safer Internet day is aimed at children and young people aged 5 - 11 exploring what we can trust on the internet as part of our Safer Internet Day campaign.

The first film in particular would be a good to watch together so that you can talk about the information we can trust on the internet. The middle link is a lovely story about a penguin, this is suitable for EYFS, KS1 and KS2 children.
Parents: Please watch the films first to decide whether you think they are suitable for your child. You can use these to start a discussion on you can have a discussion without using them.
As part of our safeguarding behaviour ideals, we take internet or eSafety extremely seriously at our school. Children receive discrete lessons on keeping safe and have regular updates from the school’s Computing and E-Safety Subject Leader.
How to maintain an e-safe environment at home:
- Parent controls and locks on all devices;
- Time limits (not 30 mins before bed);
- Age restricted games and apps/websites;
- Technology only to be used in shared space, not bedrooms;
- Parents check apps and messages;
- Have a conversation with children about what to do if something online worries them at home and use the Netaware website for advise https://www.net-aware.org.uk/tips-and-advice/.

Tips for staying safe online:
- Make sure you keep new online friends strictly online. If someone you don't know asks to be your online friend you must ensure an adult knows about it.
- Know how to use the CEOP Button and how to report it to the CEOP Centre if you are concerned about someone’s online behaviour towards you.
